2019 End of Season Celebration

Hello all,

We are saddened to announce that this year’s End of Season Celebration hosted by Funtown is cancelled. This was a very difficult decision made by our Board and we waited until the last possible moment to notify you with the hopes that we could find a way to pull it off, but it appears that Mother Nature and scheduling are working against us.

As most of you may know already the Thornton Academy Varsity Boys Lacrosse Team has made it to another State Champion Game this year. The game is scheduled for this Saturday at 3:30 pm in Portland at Fitzpatrick Stadium. Because of this we will have no Board Members available to collect money and coordinate entry with Funtown on Saturday afternoon. And, due to the late afternoon time that the State Championship game is scheduled it would be impractical to attempt to hold the celebration afterwards when Board Members would again be available.

Our host, Funtown (Gold Level Sponsor) would allow us to move the celebration to Sunday as we did last year, but the weather is too undecided and still looking like drizzle, rain and possible late day storms. Given the fact that everyone would like to finalize plans for the weekend we feel that the current weather report presents too great risk of ensuring a fun afternoon. Of course, this is a lot like calling a Snow Day several days in advance. Unfortunately we are unable move the celebration to the following weekend without doubling the cost to families. One of the primary reasons we hold the celebration on Father’s Day Weekend is to take advantage of Dads being allowed free admission; and for reasons we understand and accept Funtown simply in fairness cannot extend that offer beyond this weekend.

We will be working with our coaches in an effort to provide some form of individual Team Celebrations for the end of the season this year with the long term plan of returning the celebration to Funtown next year to celebrate as a group!

While we know that this is disappointing news, we hope that everyone can understand the reasons for this decision and know that it was not made lightly.

Thank you –
